A Thought of Media Relations

According to Facebook statistic from socialbakers, there are over 13 million actives Facebook users in the world, which is a pretty BIG number…

It is beyond a way from converse with friends to a powerful tool for public relations. Facebook has various features including status updates, uploading photos along with locations, etc and advancing still. As for the students, Facebook is a decent tool for us to publicize our “Ring A Life”, a recycling electronic gadgets campaign with Industry Leader Microsoft and in support of World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF). WHY? IS FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

During the pre-event week, publicity department came out an idea where we need to change our Facebook profile picture in black and white, along with our “Ring A Life” logos tagline, and the most interest part is, our nose were being replaced by a cropped TURTLE HEAD! AWWSOOmeeeeeeee~

Changing profile picture is more on engagement people and it require a deeper level of interaction. The caption, the photo I uploaded is literally representing MY OWN SELF, is my profile anyway. It requires me to communicate more! The black and white profile picture with a green turtle nose caught an eye of my Facebook friends. They even ask “Is this a trend?”, “What with the turtle nose?”, “You are saving turtle?”, “I love your captions!” I get feedbacks!

Since the profile picture is sort of HIT for me, oh well, I suggested among the media relations team, and we agreed to attach the profile picture in our pre-event press release. I JUST DON’T WANT TO LOSE THIS OPPORTUNITY! Then I realized, all matter just that the photos we need to attach is less than a lot to the content part. I have gain a lot of tips from our Lecturer (Miss Lim) on how to frame the idea of our pre-event in the press released. I can hardly explain in literally on what I have learnt, it is all based on our critical thinking, we need to get our hands on only we will gain something far beneath.

Today, “Ring A Life” was officially “rang” at TAR UC (KL) canteen 2 concourse. The flash mob accompanied by Turtlebot mascot made a remark on everybody’s mind and the refreshment (chocolate cheese cakes & mineral water) were gone smooth. However, the media interview session is a NEW thing for me. I was wondering and panic on what should I do in that particular situation.

A whisper then just cut off my wonder, “Try to listen what is the conversation and try to remember it” Miss Lim whispered.  Sooner or later, we just rushed for the on ground press released. Unfortunately, we were not able to make it by 5pm as to publish for the evening news. A life spent making mistakes is not only more honourable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. Yes, we failed to do it but at least, there will not be a crowd of press released which might confuse media as the post event press released should be the main released including the final number of electronic gadgets (phone/tablet/laptop) collected.

A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided. Make up your mind now, search for your unwanted electronic gadgets (phone/tablet/laptop) and donate it at “RING A LIFE” campaign, The Turtlebots still have two days (17-18July) kicking up at TAR UC (KL) canteen 2 concourse! Save our MOTHER (earth) and protect our BROTHERS (sea turtles)! We gave you the solution and you just need to join us in connecting lives, transforming lives. #ringalife
