Composition of Phones

Let your phone to save the Turtles!!
Good Day People!!
I know you, you, you, and you were curious!
I know even when our TURTLEBOTS approached you and briefed you about our event yet u STILL DON’T KNOW HOW IT WORKS!? AM I RIGHT?
No worries people!
Let me furnish you with some knowledge! :D

Alright!
First of all, I bet no one knows how and what is your phone made of, right?
So, let the picture below reveal the answer! The phones that we are using are made up by:

  •    Printed circuit board
  •   Liquid crystal display (LCD) screen
  •     Battery
  •     Plastic Casing
  •     Other component – speaker, microphone, antenna

It looks simple right? But, Do You Know what will it happen to the turtle if your phones don’t disposed well?
  • -        LCD Screen

It is made up by glass yet it contain toxic substances such as Mercury
  • -          Battery

It contain lots of toxic chemical substances to make it rechargeable such as Cadmium, Nickel, Zinc and copper that could really contribute a big mess to the environment!
  • -          The keypad

It is made up by plastic, therefore, it is some sort of non-degradable material that unable to dispose and it would eventually cause to greenhouse effect!

  • -          The other substances – speaker, microphones

These substances are also carrying hazardous substances.

Imagine if this bunch of wastage are not getting well disposed, it may create a real mess to our environment includes air, soil and water. Worst still, it may harm the entire ecosystem and eventually lead to the extinction of ecosystem.  These wastage that are disposed without consideration to the nature will decompose in the landfills into ground water, contaminating the soil and entering the food chain, like how it had left an impact on our precious sea turtles.
Undeniable, turtles are one of the long life span animal and may live up to 100 years. But, they are now facing several challenges in each stage of their growth. According to the recent study, there are only 1% of the turtles are managing to survive to adulthood and reproduction due to the 40% of Natural Disaster and 60% of Human Threats! (WWF, 2011) How sad to heard this!

Next, Plastic is the biggest killer in the turtle’s adulthood. The turtles that lack of ability in differentiating the plastic and their real food, jelly fish and consumed these assumed 'jellyfish', it will ingested, blocking the turtle's intestinal tract and can cause the sea turtles to become entangled in dump and die.
This situation is similar to the component of phones that are not only ingesting but also poisonous to them.
